Audi SQ7 TDI: The World’s Most Powerful Diesel SUV Will Leave You Speechless

2040 × 1360

Excited about the new Audie SQ7 TDI? We here at Audi Shrewsbury definitely are. But, here’s the problem: the German automaker is yet to confirm whether it will bring this powerful diesel SUV to North America. The ongoing Dieselgate saga that has taken over makes the US look like a risky option.

But, before we explore why the SQ7 TDI would make a great option in the US, let’s take a look at the SUV’s specifications and price.

Ø  Audi SQ7 TDI: a Beast under the Hood

If the diesel car is ever going to make a comeback, it will probably be thanks to vehicles like the Audi SQ7 TDI. The new high-performance diesel crossover is, without a doubt, a fascinating car sure to leave many people impressed by its size and agility. Longer than a Range Rover Sport and wider than a BMW X5, the SQ7 can still perform well on the road due to an impressive amount of innovative engineering.

The SQ7 TDI was advertised as “the world’s most powerful diesel SUV” but does it deliver on the promise?

The SUV carries a 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 diesel under the hood, an enormous engine that churns out up to 435 horsepower. Given the car’s size, the motor needs to produce some impressive figures, and luckily, it does.

The SQ7 delivers 429bhp from 3,750 to 5,000rpm. But that’s practically nothing compared to the remarkable amount of torque it provides: 664lb ft from 1,000rpm to 3,250rpm. We’re not sure about you, but we here at Audi Shrewsbury were truly fascinated by these figures. Mainly because, in spite being a mammoth of a vehicle that weighs 2,330kg, it only needs 4.9 seconds to reach 62mph.

The SUV also comes with a ZF 8 speed gearbox which, in our opinion, is only making the car a pleasure to drive. The eight-speed gearbox allows for a smooth and quick shift through gears, enhancing the driving experience.

Ø  Technical Features

There’s a lot of high-tech engineering in the new SQ7. And the reason is more than obvious: it takes a lot of state-of-the-art engineering to make a 2.3-ton beast perform well on the road.

First of all, it’s the first production vehicle to use an electric-powered compressor. This device ensures that the two turbochargers work at optimum levels, delivering agile starting performance. As a result, the diesel SUV promises maximum dynamics without any indication of turbo lag.

The power of the electric-powered compressor, which can reach up to 7 kW, is delivered by a 48-volt electrical subsystem. This feature makes the SQ7 TDI the first Audi vehicle to feature this state-of-the-art electrical system.

In addition to the electric-powered compressor, the SQ7 also uses a high-tech system of electromechanical active roll stabilization, which represents an engineering innovation. Its purpose is to make it possible for drivers to control such a big and aggressive SUV.

Moreover, a 48-volt Lithium-ion battery, found in the electrical subsystem, will ensure to meet both the high-power and short-term energy demands of the SUV.

Many were quick to name the SQ7 as an “off-road R8.” While it might seem like an exaggeration, the claim is not that far from the truth. Not only that the diesel SUV is fast and highly-performant, but it’s also easy to drive, and it moves smoothly along the road, defying the laws of physics.

Ø  Price & Rivals

The SQ7 outperforms its rivals in almost every respect. It’s faster, more powerful, and it has more torque that Range Rover or BMW X5. However, it’s also pricier. The base price for the diesel SUV is EUR 89,900 in Germany.

The car will be on sale in Europe this summer, and it will arrive in Canada in the second half of the next year. But, will it come to the US, as well?

Ø  Signs Audi Will Bring the SQ7 to the States

The question on our minds here at Audi Shrewsbury is whether the German automaker will bring the impressive SQ7 to the US. The decision to sell a powerful diesel SUV in America would be a risky move for Audi, especially because of the diesel emission scandal. The scandal is still fresh in the public’s mind and had a huge impact on the Volkswagen Group of which Audi is a part.

However, there are signs that Audi is considering the US market. For instance, the SUV made an appearance in the latest Captain America movie, raising everybody’s hopes up.

Whether Audi will market the SQ7 in the US is still a mystery. But, if you are interested in getting information on other models, don’t hesitate to check Audi Shrewsbury’s website.
